Top 13 Things You Should Know To Stay Healthy During COVID-19 Pandemic

It’s no secret that 2020 has not been an easy year for Americans. Summer is almost here but most Americans are forced to shelter in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Instead of just worrying, there are things we can all do to mitigate the risk of catching this contagious disease. Below is a list of best practices to increase your odds of staying healthy:

1. Avoid exposure to the virus. COVID-19 virus is thought to spread mainly between people in close contact. As a result, the CDC recommends that individuals maintain a distance of at least 6 feet with others outside their household. Avoid close contact, if possible, with people who are sick even within your household.
2. Hands should be washed vigorously for at least 20 seconds with soap and water after sneezing, coughing, blowing your nose, or going to a public place. If soap and water are not available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60 percent alcohol.
3. Avoid touching your mouth, nose, and eyes with unwashed hands.
4. Remember that some people without symptoms may still be able to spread the virus.
5. Stay out of crowded places and avoid mass gatherings.
6. Wear a mask or other face-covering when going out to public places such as grocery stores. Maintain a 6-foot distance from others even while wearing a mask.
7. Remember to cover your nose and mouth with a tissue, or an elbow, when sneezing or coughing.  Immediately wash hands after sneezing or coughing.
8. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces, such as doorknobs, countertops, tables, light switches, phones, desks, keyboards, faucets, toilets, and sinks daily.
9. Get plenty of sleep, at least seven hours if possible every night. Do your best to manage stress.
10. Avoid smoking and alcohol.
11. Eat a healthy diet consisting of fresh fruits and vegetables.
12. Supplement diet with vitamins.
13. Avoid unnecessary travel.
